Computer Education in Hiroshima University of Economics
Hiroshima University of Economics, established in 1967, currently consists of three departments with approximately 4,200 students. In the beginning of 2002 academic year, a new departmenteInformation Systems in Businessfwill also be added, so the sum of departments in HUE will soon become four.
Since the foundation of HUE, education on computing for the students has been all the time an underlined agenda. Even so, computing environment particularly for multimedia processing and Internet access on campus have been entirely improved in the past decade. The genuine Internet access speed to commercial Internet backbone currently scores over 20Mbps and is achieved with the network facility equivalent to ISP. The internal network backbone is composed with optical fibers and layer-3 GigaEthernet-switches, an individual connection of which can be performed up to 4Gbps with 15Mpps. Besides the high-speed network, all of PC for students are connected with Internet and worn with a DVD/CD-R/RW combo device. So, the students can freely and easily access to information and multimedia resources on the inside of campus as well as the outside. In the same way, lecture rooms have also been updated with information technology. For more details, see the following article.
