Information Environment for Education in Musashi Institute of Technology(MI-TECH)
@The Faculty of Environmental and Information Studies (FEIS) was established as the second faculty of MI-TECH in April 1997. The Center for Information Studies (CIS) of FEIS has three functions, namely, library, language laboratory(LL) and information literacy training. The CIS has been engaged in planning, designing and operating of the Yokohama campus network(YC-NET) and facilities with multimedia apparatuses. In large scale lecture rooms, teachers can display their teaching contents to 150 inch or 200 inch screens by liquid crystal projector; they can also use variety of information resources such as PCs connected to YC-NET, S-VHS video player, CATV, DVD player, desktop camera, interactive whiteboard and file severs on YC-NET. These rooms are operated very simply by user friendly, touch panel display on the PC. Each student can use a PC with Windows 2000 OS and share the teacher's PC monitor with the next student in laboratory rooms where they receive support from student assistants in every laboratory class. YC-NET backbone is composed of optical fibers and layer-3 Gigabit Ethernet-switches and 54/11Mbps wireless LAN. Exercises of information literacy laboratory classes in the first year are mainly done by collaborating with group members composed of few students as they experience how to use information literacy for finding solutions. Our information environment for education and curriculum are highly evaluated by the students.
